The Electromagnetic Open Channel Flowmeter is an instrument specifically designed for measuring the flow velocity and rate of fluids in open channels, semi-filled pipes, or under non-constant flow conditions. It operates based on Faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction, generating a magnetic field in the fluid (which must have a certain conductivity) and measuring the induced voltage generated by the fluid cutting the magnetic field lines to calculate the flow velocity, and subsequently the flow rate. Its significant advantage is the absence of any intrusive or obstructing components within the fluid during measurement, thus causing no pressure loss or blockage, making it suitable for fluids containing suspended solids, silt, or scale.
